Workshop Description:
Applying to medical school can feel overwhelming, especially when you are trying to separate real guidance from second-hand opinions, bad information, or advice from people who have no clue how admissions decisions are actually made. This student-centered and inspirational workshop is designed for community college and university premed students who want clearer insight into how to build a strong, mission-driven application for Stanford School of Medicine. Albert Chevez, MA, Director of Admissions Programs and Recruitment, will share guidance on what helps applicants stand out, including academic preparation, service, clinical exposure, leadership, reflection, resilience, and alignment with a school’s mission and values. Students will learn how to think more intentionally about their experiences, communicate their story with authenticity, and avoid common mistakes that can weaken an otherwise strong application. You can come, ask your questions and get answers in a supportive environment focused on clarity, confidence, and practical next steps. Most importantly, come hear directly from the source and leave better prepared to pursue medicine with purpose.
About the Speaker:
Albert Chevez is the Director of Admissions Programs and Recruitment at Stanford Medicine. Over the past 20+ years, he’s held various positions supporting students interested in pursuing a career in medicine, including Assistant Dean of MD Admissions at Stanford Medicine and Director of the Pre-Health Advising Program at UC Riverside.
As a first-generation and underrepresented college student born in Los Angeles and raised in the San Gabriel Valley (Southern California), Albert is particularly passionate about mentoring individuals with similar backgrounds.
