Workshop Description:
Finding clinical experience and shadowing should not feel like a secret handshake. This workshop is built for community college, university, and post-bacc pre-med and pre-PA students who want a clear, realistic plan for earning meaningful patient-facing hours and observation experiences, even without family connections in healthcare. We will map the most common pathways (volunteering, paid clinical roles, entry-level certifications, community clinics, and structured programs), explain what counts as strong experience, and show how to track hours and reflections so your work translates into a compelling application story. We will also cover pitfalls (HIPAA, professionalism, and social media) that can derail opportunities. You will also learn outreach strategies that actually work: how to write cold emails, follow up professionally, ask for shadowing respectfully, and handle a “no” without losing momentum. Most importantly, bring your questions. You can come, ask your questions, and get answers directly from the source, not second-hand myths or advice from people who have no clue about the admissions process. Leave with scripts, a checklist, and next steps you can start this week.
