About the Speaker:
Michael G. Galvez, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon with specialized training in pediatric hand surgery. Both of his parents immigrated from Lima, Peru and he grew up in the Bay Area. He went to Diablo Valley College (DVC, a community college), transferred to U.C. Berkeley and majored in molecular/cell biology. He earned his medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine in 2011 and completed a Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) research fellowship. Dr. Galvez completed his residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Stanford University in 2017 where he was inducted in the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honor Society. He completed additional fellowships in 2018 in combined hand and microvascular surgery at the University of Washington in Seattle and in pediatric upper extremity surgery at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, Texas. He is the Director of Pediatric Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera, California. He is an awardee of the CalHealthCares, a loan repayment program aimed at physicians who provide care to Medi-Cal patients. He is actively engaged in pediatric hand surgery research and has co-edited the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion issue for Hand Clinics with Dr. Kevin Chung. He values the importance of true mentorship and diversity in medicine and founded the National Latino Physician Day, celebrated on October 1st, with Dr. Cesar Padilla an obstetric anesthesiologist from Stanford University.
