About the Speaker:
Dr. Aham Onyike is a US Board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with over two decades of experience, specializing in complex joint replacement surgeries, including revision and previously failed procedures, orthopaedic trauma and sports medicine. He earned his undergraduate degree from Penn State University and completed his medical education at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. Dr. Onyike completed his residency at Howard University Hospital and a prestigious fellowship in joint replacement surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University (2004–2005).
Throughout his career, Dr. Onyike has consistently been recognized for his surgical excellence, earning honors such as Washington DC Magazine’s Top Doctors and multiple Patient’s Choice Awards. His clinical leadership includes developing orthopedic practices at Premier Orthopaedics of Virginia and serving as Chief of Joint Replacement Surgery at Howard University Hospital and the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He is also the founder of Avante Orthopaedics in College Park, Maryland, a one-stop orthopaedic center offering urgent care, telehealth, regenerative orthopedics, physical therapy and ambulatory surgery.
As a high-volume joint replacement surgeon, Dr. Onyike has performed over 10,000 hip and knee replacement surgeries in the United States and abroad.
In addition to his clinical accomplishments, Dr. Onyike has been committed to sustainable access to orthopaedic care through education, advocacy and innovation. He previously served as an Assistant Professor at Howard University and founded the Center for Advanced Specialty Surgery (www.cassurgery.com), a boutique surgical hospital in Nigeria, designed to expand access to advanced surgical care and train local surgeons.
Dr. Onyike is also the founder of Operation Stand Walk Run (www.oswr.org), a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving orthopedic care across Africa through training, facility development, and the provision of free surgical services to underserved populations.
An innovator in emergency response technology, Dr. Onyike created 9ja911 (www.9ja911.com), a digital triage and care navigation platform aimed at improving access to urgent care for patients with musculoskeletal injuries and acute pain in Nigeria.
