Medical school admissions can feel intimidating, especially when so much of the advice online is second-hand, outdated, or coming from people who have no clue how the process actually works. This student-centered and inspirational workshop is designed for community college and university premed students who want clear, practical guidance on how to become a competitive applicant for the UC San Diego School of Medicine. Rodrigo Gutierrez, Jr., Admissions Recruitment Specialist at UC San Diego School of Medicine, will share insight into what students should be doing now to strengthen their path, including academic preparation, service, clinical exposure, leadership, and building a thoughtful application strategy. Drawing on nearly twenty years of experience in education and his work supporting low-income and first-generation students across California, he will also speak to the importance of access, preparation, and staying connected to your goals. You can come, ask your questions and get answers in a supportive environment focused on clarity, confidence, and real next steps. Most importantly, come hear directly from the source instead of second-hand or bad information or people who have no clue about the admission process.
About the Speaker:
Mr. Gutierrez has been working in education in San Diego for nearly twenty years and recently started working for the UC San Diego School of Medicine as a Recruitment Admissions Specialist. Most of his experience has been working at San Diego State University (SDSU) with their Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). During his time with EOP at SDSU he worked with prospective and current low-income, first-generation college students from all over the state of California. He is familiar with connecting prospective students to their higher educational goals.
