About the Speaker:
Dr. Sheryl Recinos is a Family Physician working as a Hospitalist in California. She began her career as a community college student in Los Angeles, then transferred to UCLA. She initially became a high school science teacher before finally pursuing her dreams of attending medical school. She started at Ross University when she was 31, as a wife and mother of 3. Her journey as a nontraditional student and survivor of significant traumas (including running away, foster care, incarceration, and homelessness) gave her unique insights into treating underserved patients. She is a strong advocate for breaking down barriers to studying medicine and mentorship. She is the author of the award-winning memoir Hindsight: Coming of Age on the Streets of Hollywood, which chronicles her teen years. She currently serves as the first alumni member on the Board of Directors for My Friend’s Place, a homeless youth program in Hollywood.
