About the Speakers:
Alexis Ivan Aleman
Alexis Ivan Aleman is a rising 3rd year medical student at UCLA DGSOM in the UCLA/Drew program. He is the oldest of four children from Mexican migrant parents. He was born and raised in South Central LA. Growing up, he did not know he wanted to be a doctor, but he always knew he wanted to work in the medical field. Part of that was because he never met a Latino physician or medical student, so he didn’t believe he could do it. While at California State University-Northridge during his pre-med years, he met a Latino medical student, and this changed the game for him. He obtained a degree in biology and knew that becoming a physician was for him. His goals are to work with underserved populations and help diversify the field of medicine.

Irvin Garcia Real
Irvin Garcia Real is a rising 3rd year medical student at UCLA DGSOM. He was born in a small pueblo in Mexico and grew up in Washington state. As an immigrant and first-generation high school and college graduate, Irvin is passionate about health and educational equity, and will become the first doctor in his family. With the help of his classmate Alexis Aleman, they have co-created the Foos in Medicine social media platform, where they have reached millions of people with the goal of inspiring others from underrepresented backgrounds to pursue their dreams in medicine and higher education.
