Jared J. Duran, MSII

Jared J Duran, MS II
Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine
Jared is a second-year medical student at the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine in Pasadena, CA. Born and raised in Yuma, Arizona, in a Mexican household, he developed an early passion for medicine, aspiring to become a physician since middle school. He attended the University of Southern California, where he studied Pharmacology and Drug Development and conducted research in a neurology lab focused on Parkinson’s disease for four years. During his gap year, he continued his research and worked as a medical scribe in a urology clinic, an experience that introduced him to the specialty and shaped his future career aspirations. As a first-generation student whose parents did not complete their schooling in the U.S., Jared navigated the path to medical school by seeking mentorship and resources on his own. Now, he is passionate about mentoring aspiring medical students, particularly those unfamiliar with the application process, MCAT preparation, or resume-building. Jared is also deeply committed to his Christian faith, which remains the foundation of his life, keeping him grounded through the challenges of medical school.
