About the Speaker:
Paul Lyons is the President of California University of Science and Medicine and the Dean of the School of Medicine.
Dr. Lyons earned a B.A. in philosophy from Oberlin College before attending medical school at Ohio State University. He conducted his residency in family medicine and community health at the University of Minnesota where he remained for one year as a faculty member before joining the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
From 1998-2011, Dr. Lyons moved up the ranks to full professor at Temple University School of Medicine and served as associate chair for clinical education and faculty development coordinator in the Department of Family and Community Medicine.
At UC Riverside School of Medicine, Dr. Lyons served as senior associate dean of education responsible for all curricular programs leading to the M.D. degree, and the development and oversight of the Office of Educational Development. He was also founding chair of the department of family medicine.
Dr. Lyons’ areas of interest include curriculum planning, faculty development and evaluation, faculty recruitment and appointment, and student progress and promotion.
He served as co-principal investigator on the study of hypertension-related immune/inflammatory dysfunction and periodontitis in African Americans.
