Workshop Description:
Are you worried about interacting with your professors? Are you afraid to say or do the wrong things? Are you a first-gen college student who doesn’t know how to interact with professors? Are you a Community College student who wants to maximize interactions with your professors? Are you a Community College student who is worried about transitioning from Community College to the University of California or other Universities? Do you want to learn the best practices in securing a great letter of recommendation for Medical School?
Then this is a workshop that you should not miss. You will hear detailed instructions, steps, and best practices in interacting with your professors and building a solid foundation with professors.
About the Speakers:
Nancy Galindo serves as the Undergraduate Initiatives Program Coordinator supporting students to become competitive applicants to medical school through pathway initiatives and programs including Postbaccalaureate Program(https://health.ucdavis.edu/diversity/postbaccalaureate/index.html) and the Medical School Preparatory Education Program (MSPEP) (https://health.ucdavis.edu/diversity/undergraduate.html). Previously, she worked for City Colleges of Chicago supporting students through their academic journey with a focus on assisting students to obtain admissions to a variety of healthcare programs.
Nancy was a first-generation college student and feels fortunate to have had various people along her academic journey leading the way. She is committed to paying it forward and assisting students to navigate the higher education system.
Cassidy Kays is the UC Postbaccalaureate Consortium Coordinator (https://health.ucdavis.edu/postbacc-consortium/) and serves the 4 UC programs: Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. She has previous experiences at Sacramento City College working in student affairs assisting with student enrollment, managing advising appointments, and providing guidance to students on various pathway programs and support services. She is a proud community college graduate and transfer student.
Cassidy has a passion for working with students from disadvantaged backgrounds and values the role of mentorship in educational outcomes. With an associate’s and bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Sacramento City College and UC Davis, she has the goal of promoting equity and creating opportunities for student success.
