Applying to medical school requires more than ambition; it requires preparation, strategy, and a clear understanding of how admissions, financial aid, outreach, and pathway programs connect. This student-centered and inspirational workshop is designed for community college and university premed students who want practical, SEO-friendly guidance on building a competitive application for David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Alisa Lopez, Executive Director of Admissions, Financial Aid, Outreach, and Pathway Programs, will share insight into what helps applicants stand out, including academic readiness, clinical experience, service, leadership, resilience, mission alignment, and authentic storytelling. Students will learn how to strengthen their premed journey, prepare for the medical school application process, and approach UCLA DGSOM with greater clarity and confidence. You can come, ask your questions, and get answers in a supportive environment focused on access, preparation, and purpose. Most importantly, come hear directly from the source instead of second-hand or bad information or people who have no clue about the admission process. Leave encouraged, informed, and ready.
About the Speaker:
Alisa Lopez leads admissions, outreach, pathway programs, and financial aid for the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA where she has been actively involved in holistic review processes in applicant selection. She is also involved in the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) where she has served on PREview-related working groups, the Pre-Med Core Competencies working group, and the Summer Health Professions Education Program grant through the AAMC. Nationally, she trains professional workshops through NAFSA: Association of International Educators and recently served as the national NAFSA Trainer Corps Chair. Prior to her work at UCLA, Alisa served as Executive Director of Full-Time Recruitment at Pepperdine University’s Graziadio Business School where she directed worldwide market development, student recruitment, and enrollment management for the full-time MBA and specialized Masters programs.
Alisa holds a Masters in International Management degree from Thunderbird School of Global Management in Arizona, a Bachelor of Arts in French and a Bachelor of Science in Business from West Virginia University. She is an experienced program and project manager with PMO-CP certification, Agile certificate, and prior PMP certification.
