Founder, President, and CEO
Health Career Connection
Professor of Public Health
UC Berkeley School of Public Health
Friday November 14, 2025,
1pm-2:30pm PST
Workshop Description:
Want real clinical and public health experience this summer — and to get paid for it? This session is for you. Jeff Oxendine, MPH, MBA, Founder, President, and CEO of Health Career Connection and Professor of Public Health at UC Berkeley, will walk you through how to land a mission-driven, hands-on summer role in healthcare that actually counts for medical school. You’ll learn how these internships place you with hospitals, clinics, and community health organizations so you can work directly with professionals in patient care, public health, health equity, administration, and more while building hours, mentorship, and a network. We’ll talk about who gets selected, what a strong application looks like, and how community college, university, and post-bacc students can all be competitive. You’ll also hear how to frame this experience later in your personal statement, secondaries, and interviews. You can come, ask your questions and get answers about eligibility, pay, timeline, and fit. Most importantly, come hear directly from the source instead of second hand or bad information or people that have no clue about the admission process. This is the kind of opportunity that moves you from “interested in medicine” to “I’ve done the work.”
