Workshop Description:
Are you curious about what it really takes to become a surgeon—and thrive as a leader in medicine? Join us for an empowering session with Dr. Abdul Hassan, Chief Resident in General Surgery at UC Davis Health System and soon-to-be Colon and Rectal Surgery fellow at Baylor. A California native who began his path at UC Santa Cruz and earned his MD at UC San Diego, Dr. Hassan brings an honest, firsthand perspective on the challenges, sacrifices, and victories that come with a career in surgery.
In this session, Dr. Hassan will share his journey through medical school, residency, and beyond, highlighting the importance of mentorship, self-advocacy, and mental health in a demanding profession. You’ll hear directly from someone who has walked the path—and you’ll have the chance to ask your questions and get real, unfiltered answers. Whether you’re just starting out or applying soon, this is your opportunity to hear the truth behind the OR doors and walk away with the confidence to take your next step in medicine.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Hassan is a California native, starting his surgical journey at UC Santa Cruz. He completed his medical school training at UC San Diego and is completing his General Surgery residency at UC Davis. Starting in August, he will begin his Colon and Rectal Surgery fellowship at Baylor in Dallas. He finds joy in resident education; diversity, equity and inclusion; and advocating for physician mental health needs. When not in the hospital, he spends his time working out, reading, finishing a house upgrade and doting on his fur babies.
