Workshop Description:
If you have ever wondered what emergency medicine is really like The Pitt, fast-paced stereotypes, and second-hand opinions, this workshop is for you. Designed for community college and university premed students, this session offers an honest look at the journey from college to medical school to residency in one of the most dynamic fields in medicine. Dr. Emily Allison, MD, a PGY-3 Emergency Medicine resident at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, will share what drew her to emergency medicine, what training is actually like, and how she has balanced the demands of residency, education, and new motherhood. She will also discuss how students can begin preparing now through academics, clinical exposure, curiosity, resilience, and a willingness to learn in high-pressure environments. You can come, ask your questions and get answers in a supportive and practical conversation about medicine, training, and life in the emergency department. Most importantly, come hear directly from the source instead of second-hand or bad information or people who have no clue about the admission process. Leave inspired, informed, and motivated.

About the Speaker:
Dr. Emily  is a third-year Emergency Medicine resident at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and will complete her residency training at the end of June 2026. She began her academic journey at her hometown small liberal arts college, where she earned bachelor’s degrees in both Biology and Chemistry, before attending the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford. In addition to her clinical training, Dr. Allison is passionate about education and uses social media to share insight into emergency medicine, EMS, and, more recently, the joys and challenges of new motherhood.
