Workshop Description:
Are you interested in Pediatrics? Are you interested in the Central Valley? Do you know what it takes to be a pediatrician?
Then you should attend this workshop and hear from Dr. Ortiz, who came to UC Merced as an undergrad and fell in love with the Central Valley and returned for residency and practice as a pediatrician. She believes that Pediatrics is her calling.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Erica Ortiz’s aspirations for a career in medicine, specifically Pediatrics, started from an early age. She attended UC Merced for undergrad and worked with kids with learning impairments for a few years after graduation. She went on to medical school at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, then returned to the Central Valley of California for Pediatric Residency at Valley Children’s Healthcare in Madera, CA. This was a new residency program at the time, and Dr. Ortiz is proud to be a member of the founding class of residents. Since graduating in 2020, she has been working as a NICU/Pediatric Hospitalist in the Central Valley and will be pursuing a fellowship program in Neonatology starting this summer. Amongst the training, Dr. Ortiz also got married and started a family.
Along the way she has developed numerous programs for local pre-med and medical students to have more opportunities to experience medicine and explore various fields within Pediatrics. She is passionate about guiding individuals along their journey to medicine, particularly advocating for individuals like her that may have had a few detours along the way but keep the end goal in sight!
