About the Speakers:
Anila Ahmad
Anila Ahmad is the Admissions Officer/Coordinator for the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine – Office of Admissions and Student Program. She advises and guides potential students on the DVM admissions process and assists in the planning and execution of DVM ceremonies and events. She began her academic journey as a transfer student before completing her Bachelor of Science Degree at UC Davis. Prior to her transfer, Anila attended both American River College and Sacramento City College.
Kimberly Aguirre
Kimberly Aguirre is from Calexico, CA, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Biology from UC Davis in 2022. Throughout her DVM program, she has taken on various leadership roles, including serving as the student co-director of KLOHC, directing podcasts for the SOH club, and coordinating events for the LVMA club. Additionally, Kimberly has been actively involved in the FARM club and represents the DVM Class of 2026 as a Student Affairs Committee Representative. Notably, she participated in the Global Underserved Communities Fellowship through Global Programs, aligning with her emphasis in Public Health. Kimberly aspires to become a livestock/public health veterinarian in the future.
Kathryn Young
Kathryn, originally from Brentwood, CA, obtained her B.S. in Biology and Pre-Vet Sciences from Boise State University in 2018. She also attended community college. Engaged in her DVM program, Kathryn has been a member of SVECCS (Student Veterinary Emergency And Critical Care Society) and the Surgery club, concurrently working as a valuable member of the small animal treatment crew. She has dedicated her summers to enriching her skills, participating in sessions focused on orthopedic surgery, and planning to engage in neurology this coming summer. With a focus on small animal care, Kathryn aims to specialize in small animal emergency medicine with an emphasis on surgery, potentially pursuing an internship in the field.
Shannon Mathis
Shannon Mathis, a native of Redlands, CA, graduated with a B.S. in Animal Science from Cal Poly Pomona in 2020. Throughout her DVM journey, Shannon has been actively involved in various clubs, including the Veterinary Pathology Club, Wildlife and Aquatic Animal Medicine Club, and Camelid Medicine Club. She dedicated her summers to valuable experiences, participating in Aquavet 1 in 2022 and volunteering with the Lao Conservation and Trust for Wildlife and North Bali Reef Conservation in 2023. With a focus on pathology, Shannon initially envisions working in mixed animal and aquatic practice, with aspirations to pursue a residency in anatomic pathology, particularly on aquatic pathology.
