Workshop Description:
For community college and university premedical students who wonder whether becoming a physician means postponing family, motherhood, or other important parts of life, this workshop offers an honest and encouraging perspective. Madeleine Babb-Ekola, MS IV, a fourth-year medical student at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and President Emeritus of PreMedCC, will share her experience becoming a mother while completing medical school. Students will hear about balancing pregnancy, parenthood, academics, clinical rotations, personal responsibilities, and the emotional realities of pursuing medicine while building a family. Come, ask your questions, and get answers about medical school, motherhood, planning, support systems, challenges, and finding a path that works for you. Hear directly from someone living this experience instead of relying on second-hand information, bad advice, or people who have no clue about the admissions process or realities of medical training. You should not have to choose between becoming a physician and building the life you want. Your journey can include ambition, family, purpose, and medicine. There is room for both dreams.
