10am-11:30am PST
Workshop Description:
If you are curious about how surgeons restore function, identity, and confidence—and how an academic career in medicine is built—this workshop is for you. Designed for community college and university premed students, this session features Dr. Yen Hsieh, MD, Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, who practices facial plastic and reconstructive surgery across pediatric and adult care. Dr. Hsieh will explore the breadth of the field, from functional and cosmetic rhinoplasty to facial trauma, facial nerve paralysis, cleft and craniofacial reconstruction, scar revision, and skin cancer repair, while also explaining what “academic medicine” looks like day to day—teaching, research, mentorship, and complex patient care. You can come, ask your questions, and get answers in a candid, supportive setting. Most importantly, you will hear directly from the source, not second-hand myths or advice from people who have no clue about the admissions process or surgical training. Leave with clearer direction, practical next steps, and motivation to pursue your path with purpose, especially if you are exploring specialties.
