Jen RB, OMS-IV
Medical Student
Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences
Saturday, March 28, 2026
10am-11:30am PST
Workshop Description:
If you have ever wondered whether your timeline disqualifies you from medicine, this session is for you. Designed for community college and university premed students, this workshop features Jen RB, an osteopathic medical student (OMS-IV) at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences, who is thriving in medical school and set to graduate at 54. Jen will share what it actually takes to succeed as a non-traditional student, including how to manage coursework intensity, clinical responsibilities, finances, family obligations, and self-care without burning out. Drawing on her background in education, nutrition, research, and advocacy, she will offer practical strategies for studying smarter, building supportive networks, and sustaining motivation across a long training pathway. You can come, ask your questions, and get answers in a candid, encouraging conversation about obstacles, tradeoffs, and the skills that matter most. Most importantly, you will hear directly from the source, not second-hand advice or misinformation from people who have no clue about what medical training really demands. Leave with a clearer plan, renewed confidence, and concrete next steps you can apply immediately to your premed journey.
About the Speaker:
Jen is an osteopathic student in the class of 2026 at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences in Washington state. Prior to beginning her medical studies, Jen earned her bachelor’s degree from Oregon State University and later received master’s degrees in Education and Nutrition. She spent over 10 years as a research assistant and educator at Portland State University’s Autism Training and Research Center and as a board member of both the Autism Society of Oregon and Northwest Autism Foundation. In addition to her studies and career in academia, Jen divides her time between volunteering at local substance use disorder clinics, advocating for healthcare reform at a state and federal level, helping run her family farm on the Washington coast and inspiring other non-traditional students at her active IG and TikTok sites @the.road.to.doctor.jen.
