Workshop Description:
Choosing a medical school pathway can feel like sorting signal from noise, especially when advice comes second-hand or from people who have no clue how admissions actually works. In this workshop, you will hear directly from the source: Dr. John Graneto, Founding Dean and Professor at CHSU College of Osteopathic Medicine, will walk you through what osteopathic medical education looks like today and what applicants should understand before they apply. Designed for community college, university, and post-bacc premed students, this session will clarify how schools evaluate academic preparation, service, clinical exposure, leadership, and mission fit, and how to present your story with integrity and strategy. You are encouraged to come, ask your questions, and get real answers in a supportive, practical environment, whether you are early in your journey or preparing to apply soon. Leave with clearer expectations, fewer myths, and concrete next steps you can act on immediately for your application cycle.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Graneto is a 1986 graduate of the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. His pre-med undergraduate degree is from the University of Cincinnati. He completed both a general Pediatrics residency as well as a separate Emergency Medicine residency, in Chicago, and is double board-certified in both EM and Pediatrics. He additionally holds an earned master’s degree in education from the University of Cincinnati, and he is also a Fellow of the National Academy of Osteopathic Medical Educators.
Dr. Graneto is well-published in scientific journals and books. He has held multiple national education leadership positions.
After an exciting academic and clinical career in both Chicago and, briefly, Kansas City, Dr. Graneto moved to California in 2017 and serves as the Founding Dean of California’s newest medical school in Clovis.
