Workshop Description:
Interested in medicine that starts with community needs and ends with healthier families, rural towns, and island communities? Join us for a session with Dr. Kelley Withy, MD, PhD, Professor in Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Hawaiʻi John A. Burns School of Medicine and Director of the Hawaiʻi/Pacific Basin Area Health Education Center (AHEC). Dr. Withy will share how UH JABSOM trains community-first physicians through education rooted in service, clinical training, and partnerships that strengthen the health workforce where it is needed most. You will learn what strong applicants do early, how to build experiences that align with community care, and how to think about mission fit, mentorship, and impact. Most importantly, bring your questions. Ask them live and get answers about preparation, pathways, and what admissions teams value, instead of relying on second-hand rumors or advice from people who have no clue how the process works. Whether you are at a community college, university, or post-bacc program, this session will help you map your next steps with clarity and purpose.
