Workshop Description:
Want a research-rich summer that strengthens your medical school application and opens doors to mentors, skills, and publications? This hands-on session with Tiffany Shaleen Reardon—founder of REUFinder.com and Director of UC Berkeley’s Transfer Alliance Project—demystifies how community college, university, and post-bacc students can find funded, high-impact opportunities. You’ll learn where to search (NSF REUs, NIH programs, university labs, hospitals), how to read eligibility fine print, and ways to match your interests to a mentor’s current projects. We’ll cover fall application timelines, crafting a focused CV and 250-word statement, writing concise faculty emails, securing strong letters, and preparing for interviews. You’ll also pick up practical tips for housing, transportation, and balancing lab schedules with MCAT or coursework. Expect checklists, example outreach messages, and a planning calendar you can use immediately, starting now. This is your chance to come, ask your questions and get answers tailored to your situation. Most importantly, come hear directly from the source instead of second-hand or bad information or people that have no clue about the admission process. Whether you’re just starting or ready to submit, you’ll leave with a realistic, step-by-step strategy to find the right program, win the offer, and thrive in the lab.
