About the Speakers:

Anila Ahmad is the Admissions Officer/Coordinator for the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine – Office of Admissions and Student Program. She advises and guides potential students on the DVM admissions process and assists in the planning and execution of DVM ceremonies and events. She began her academic journey as a transfer student before completing her Bachelor of Science Degree at UC Davis. Prior to her transfer, Anila attended both American River College and Sacramento City College.

Chauntelle Johnson, a Southern California native, graduated from UC Davis in 2022 with a B.S. in Animal Science and Management after transferring from community college. As a first-generation college student, she discovered a deep passion for mentorship early in her DVM journey. She currently serves as president of sNABV UCD – a club that promotes education in veterinary medicine to Black students and mentors members of the PSSD club at UC Davis. She is also Head Coordinator of Mercer Veterinary Clinic, where she helps provide care to underserved populations while supporting student development. With professional interests in rural medicine and accessible veterinary care, Chauntelle aspires to own a mixed mobile practice serving livestock, equine, and small animal patients, while continuing to mentor aspiring veterinarians from pre-vet through their clinical years.

Rylee Garrett is a second year veterinary student at UC Davis. She is from San Martin, CA. She spent 6 years earning my bachelor’s degree in Animal Science while mostly working full time. Rylee went to West Valley Community College in Saratoga, CA for 4 years while working at Town Cats, a non-profit cat rescue. In 2020, she transferred to UC Davis where she graduated in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree. Her primary interests are feline medicine, shelter medicine, and internal medicine. Besides being an ambassador for the School of Veterinary Medicine here at UC Davis, she is also a President of Feline Medicine Club, Vice President of Shelter Medicine Club, and Event Coordinator for Health & Wellness Club. Rylee plans to take the small animal track, and would like to specialize in feline medicine (and maybe internal medicine) after veterinary school.
