Workshop Description:
Discover how to take your pre-med journey to the next level with Stanford’s prestigious summer programs and leadership opportunities. Join us for an exclusive workshop led by Dr. Marcella Anthony, a seasoned expert with over 25 years of experience in college student development and pathways to medicine. As the Assistant Director of Stanford Medicine’s Office of Diversity in Medical Education, Dr. Anthony has been instrumental in guiding community college students into health professions through federally funded programs, statewide initiatives, and direct collaboration with Stanford MD Admissions. This is your chance to hear directly from a trusted source, not second-hand or misinformed individuals, about what it takes to succeed in competitive medical school applications. Learn about Stanford’s summer pathway programs, mentorship opportunities, and strategies to strengthen your application. Bring your questions and get answers straight from an insider who has chaired admissions committees, conducted interviews, and spearheaded outreach efforts. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain clarity, guidance, and inspiration for your path to medical school.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Anthony’s college student development experience spans more than 25 years.
As the Director of Undergraduate Pathway Programs in the Office of Diversity in Medical Education, she has contributed to community college student entry into the health professions by operating a federally-funded Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP), presenting community college pathways to medicine on a panel at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) national Learn, Serve, Lead Conference, and hosting and contributing to institutional and several statewide efforts to foster community college students from underrepresented populations into health professions. She is an institutional representative for the California Health Professions Consortium (CHPC) where the ODME summer program is recognized as an experienced pathway program and founding contributor to the more recent California Medicine Scholars Program (CMSP) specifically focused on community college to medical school pathways.
Marcella has also worked closely with Stanford Medical Doctorate Admissions in outreach and recruitment efforts, staffing the AAMC virtual medical school fair, serving for 12 years as a medical school interviewer/rater, and as an MD Admissions subcommittee chair for 6 years.
Marcella is part of a small team that was recently awarded a mini-grant to offer a community health equity conference, educational sessions, and an internship for community college students in San Francisco, San Mateo, and Alameda counties.
