Workshop Description:
This workshop will explore the unique challenges and experiences of LGBTQIA+ individuals in the pre-medical field. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from a leader of LGBTQIA+ medical students and professionals as they share their personal journeys and offer advice on navigating the pre-med process. The workshop will also cover topics such as building a supportive network, finding LGBTQIA+-friendly medical schools, and addressing discrimination in clinical settings. Whether you are just starting your pre-med journey or are already in the process, this workshop will provide valuable information and resources to help you succeed. This workshop aims to empower LGBTQIA+ pre-med students and make the path to becoming a doctor more inclusive and accessible.

About the Speaker:
Sabina Spigner, M.S., M.P.H. is a fourth-year medical student at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She holds an M.S. in Biology from Chatham University and an M.P.H. from the Jefferson College of Population Health. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with her B.A. degree in Neuroscience and Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies. Driven by her passion for improving LGBTQ+ medical education and healthcare, Sabina served as the Executive Director of the Medical Student Pride Alliance (MSPA) from 2021-2023, which is a national organization dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ medical students. Sabina is pursuing a career as an OB/GYN clinician-educator.
