Workshop Description:
Have you considered the Navy Health Professions Scholarship to pay for medical school? Do you know someone who has received it? Are you a woman who has questions about Military Medicine? Are you interested in Surgery? Do you have questions about managing a medical career, a military career, and having a family?
Then you should come and meet and ask questions from Dr. Spence, a Navy Surgeon, and Leader in Navy Medicine.

About the Speaker:
A Michigan native, Dr. Spence came to California and graduated as a Valedictorian from San Clemente High School. She then received the Presidential Scholarship to California State University Long Beach, where she graduated with a double major in Biochemistry and Chemistry and a minor in Biology. Her medical training was completed at the University of California Davis School of Medicine, and she received the Navy Health Professions Scholarship. At UCDSOM, she developed a surgical program that aided individuals from underrepresented backgrounds with exposure to medicine and surgery. Upon graduation, she completed her surgical training in general surgery at Harbor UCLA in Torrance, California, caring for the underserved. Throughout her residency, she continued to excel, receiving Surgical Intern of the Year and Outstanding Service as Administrative Chief Resident.
Currently, she is a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy. She has worked with the 1st Medical Battalion of the USMC and is now the surgeon for Fleet Surgical Team Three. She will soon become the Chief of Surgery at Camp Pendleton in 2023.
As a military surgeon, she serves as the General and Trauma surgeon for forward surgical teams during deployment. While not deployed, she works at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, where she holds several positions in executive medicine.
