About the Speaker:
Anthony Machado is a National Health Service Corps Scholar, a graduate from the PA program Keck School of Medicine of University of Southern California (USC), and Co-Founder of BrainBox Methods. He received his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Kinesiology at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) where he was nominated for Major of the Year before graduating with departmental and university honors. While at CSUSB, he led numerous student organizations, participated in a year of research in health disparities, and co-founded the first Pre-Medical and Pre-Health Conference at CSUSB. As an undergrad, Anthony made the most of his summers by completing an internship at the University of California, Riverside, School of Medicine, conducting research and community health projects within the underserved areas of Riverside and San Bernardino. Anthony went on to complete an internship at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center Foundation where he worked on grants to help improve access to care for the underserved. In the summer of 2013, upon completing his internship at Arrowhead, Anthony went on to become a Congressional Intern along with his brother, at the House of Representatives in Washington D.C. under Congressman Raul Ruiz M.D. – working on health legislation regarding the introduction of the Affordable Care Act. Upon returning from Washington D.C., Anthony became a Peer Advisor at the Career Center at CSUSB where he helped hundreds of students with study skills, resumes, personal statements, networking, job searches, and interviewing skills.
After graduating from CSUSB in 2014, Anthony moved to Sacramento where he experienced the proudest moment in his life – the birth of his daughter, Celia Menacho. In Sacramento, Anthony continued his work to the underserved as a Health Policy Advocate at the California State Capitol and had his work published on the front page of the LA times.. Soon after, while still living in Sacramento, Anthony took on a position as an Emergency Room Technician at St. Bernardine’s Medical Center in San Bernardino, CA. Anthony stayed with St. Bernardine’s Medical Center before receiving a full-ride scholarship as a National Health Service Corps Scholar at his dream school at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. Anthony recently founded and created the Sacramento Street Medicine organization to serve one of the most underserved and vulnerable populations in the nation.
Anthony has given workshops on mentorship, studying skills, networking, resume building, and the PA profession at numerous renowned institutions such as the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley), University of California, Davis, Stanford University, California Baptist University, and California State University, Los Angeles. Currently, Anthony serves as the Co-CEO of BrainBox Methods to help fill the gap in underrepresented students that lack the resources and mentorship needed to succeed in college.
